There are several ways to create a new news item. The most usual is to find the members panel on any of your site's pages, under there are all the most frequently used commands, depending on your membership level.
Or, you could go to your Editors only menu at the top of any page (if you are an editor) and select News. In the pending news items page there is a link to Create a new news item.
Or, if you have installed the bookmarks, or created a bookmark for the create new news item, select that.
Once you've added a title and some text for your news item, then you may hit the create news item button. From there, you'll be in preview mode. That is, you'll be able to see how your news item will look, before you post it to the front page. Here, in preview mode you can edit your news item as often as you like. Obviously, you'll still be able to edit your news item, even when it's been published to the front page.
